@Ghost: Agreed. She did, after all, suggest as much a few pages ago.

Last panel: Damn, that is the sexiest I have >ever< seen Tiffany.

(Before you ask — her last-panel statement answers her "ANYONE ELSE?" question of the previous page.)

Meanwhile, a new day is dawning. (Literally.)

So, if she’s dead, why no “Crack!” or “Snap!” sound effect on the last page? Could have used some clarification.

NOW can we start singing that MGM song from 1939?

Nah, she’s not dead, that was a blood choke she used. Puts somebody out in 8-12 seconds, depending on whether she got both arteries. Probably wouldn’t kill her unless she continued to hold it, and it would have been so much simpler to just snap her neck.

The last panel is the best tiff’s face has been drawn in forever. Great job there. Seriously good look.

Maybe she is just unconscious , golems get destroyed if the spell-caster is dead or unconscious so their is a possibility she is.

@Hikaro: As I mentioned before, I find most sound effects clutter the frame and detract from the art. If I put such effects in, I do so for attention-grabbing out of frame stuff (like Tiffany’s defenestration a few pages before).

I love the final frame, I do have to say. The art in that is just utter perfection.

Is it possible for a horse to stand with its legs that far apart? Looks awkward.

  17. David
    February 2, 2012, 9:44 am | # | Reply

@jmucchiello: certainly. Mares put their hind legs as far apart as that when pissing, and putting the fore legs as far apart is usual when they are angling for grass below the fence. If you want to wonder about anatomy: it is somewhat awkward how the fore legs are fixed into the chest. The rest, including the chest itself, is pretty accurate.

And of course, there is no accounting for unicorns being just like horses.

I agree completely with you @Pshark, its the most gorgeous look whike. On another note, in regards to @DrPluton; is it just me or did either Peonie (or Tiff) braid the manly unicorn’s hair?

Chemiclord, I haven’t criticized you up till now, but I’m going to start. Your no-sound-effects policy is confusing us readers. If there had been a “CRACK!” when Tiff had the witch’s head in both hands, we’d all know that Tiff snapped the witch’s neck. But no “CRACK!” means what, exactly? It means either she got her neck snapped (but you omitted the sound effects) or she didn’t get her neck snapped. In this page, there is no “PANT, PANT, PANT” by the witch’s mouth. Does that mean she isn’t breathing, or she is breathing but you’ve omitted the sound effect?

Developing a cool writing style is one thing, but not when it interferes with telling the story. Over three pages we’ve seen Tiff messing with the witch, and we >still< can't say for sure whether the witch is dead or not!

I like the policy of no soundFX for action happening in front of us… But in this case – IF THE WITCH IS DEAD – then the images have fallen short in conveying that. We probably needed a view, in this page, showing her head at an unbelievably wrong angle to the rest of her body, or with open, lifeless eyes… If she’s alive then we likely needed another panel of her choking to believe it.

But back to the story πŸ˜‰

Anyone notice her face is healed up in the last panel? I’ve actually noticed this happen a few times and suspect its another result of the white magic spell’s ability to change her body. Possibly this “living spell” trying to protect it’s self (i.e. protect it’s host).

I know its not pretty but if the witch is dead the large panel should show her face as stairing lifelessly and the tung protruding slackly out of the corner of her mouth.

Y’know, if we still don’t know whether the witch is dead or not (or a Skrull in disguise, still not ruling that out people) then it just means Exiern is the equal of Marvel and DC (although with DC it wouldn’t be a Skrull, but a Cadmus-Clone, which I guess we also can’t rule out now) in comics troping.

Uncertain certain-death is what comics are all about. My criticism in this, we haven’t had a Wolverine (replace with Batman, or Johnny Alpha depending on your comic of choice) crossover yet. An insane crossover with a popular character from another strip is a requirement of making the big time. This must happen soon :o)

@GrimGhost, get a life, it’s a story, read it like it’s told, or sling yer hook.

Yes we don’t know, for certain, that the witch is dead, but it’s like CrypticMirror says, that’s what happens in stories.

What we do know is that she’s f!!!!d, royally, by a reemergent Tiff, who’s thrown off her own preconceptions about women to become a true badass, and a cuteass. πŸ˜€

@M, I have a great life. But if the writer isn’t going to tell the story so we can get what’s going on, then just take down the page and replace it with more ads. Meanwhile, writing at DC and Marvel is hardly something to hold up as an example for how to write this comic.

Very sexy close shot of Tiffany’s face at the bottom right of the page, but… there is just one thing: all over the last page, and in the bigger frame on this page, shows that Tiffany has a cut below her left eye. On the close-up shot, the cut is gone. What happened there? πŸ™‚

@chemiclord: I understand your decision to omit the sound effects; however, in this particular case, I have to agree with GrimGhost: there are times where adding a sound effect can actually make it easier to understand what is actually going on. This case is a perfect example. That’s not to say you can’t do this sort of thing without sound effects; it just means that you’ll need to take that extra step to make it clear what’s going on at times. As charles says, a panel with a shot of her head at an unnatural angle (and her neck not hidden by her hair) would tell us exactly what is happening without cluttering up the frame with sound effects.

Of course, if you were going for ambiguity, you’ve done a great job, as all the comments will show. As things stand, you have the option of bringing the witch back later with a diabolical revenge scheme against Tiffany for nearly choking the life out of her, for example.
