Wait, why is ‘cartographer’ or ‘mad mappy man’ unhelpful?
Because maps aren’t usually a standard part of a Barbarian’s inventory?
Unhelpful because no-one’s elaborated any further to Typh beyond the title to date and hence not explained anything about how he works.

So, it’s not the title they have a problem with, it’s why he is bound like that?
That’s my guess. I actually don’t know either but that would make sense. After all, when we hear “cartographer”, we think of someone who makes maps. Not someone bound and gagged in a jail cell. We also wouldn’t see how that helps steer the ship without further explanation. So we’re more or less in the same place as Typh is at the moment.
Mind you, sometimes too much explanation can be too much!

I’ve always found the “audience knows more than the main character and is now just waiting for THEM to learn what they already know” to be far more frustrating than “we’ll all learn it together” storytelling.
Have seen that clip a few times, and it always sounded like a bunch of apologists trying to apologise for everything Europeans have ever done in the history Ever
To be honest, how many people even give a crap about whether the maps correctly portray size, as long as it correctly portrays relative positions
And, the only they could legitimately switch Northern with Southern Hemispheres, is if they were also flat-earthers who don’t believe in the moon landings (or any images of Earth from space)
“Be by” is, I think, the oddest corruption of “is” I’ve ever encountered.
The original cartoony art is so much better. As was the original goofy fun, girly-Tiffany, tone.
Can we not not Snydercut everything?
There were a lot of artists that did pages for Exiern, can you be more specific which artist’s cartoony-style it was?
They’re referring to you as it happens.
As per the discussion you had in the comments section here:
http://exiern.com/comic/trash-talk/
Now Zach Snyder’s not so bad if someone else does the writing.
http://exiern.com/comic/post-credits-scene-giving-the-people-what-they-want/
(I think Dawn of the Dead is probably his best film.)
Now from what I remember at the time, Shipeng had to take a break, also may have had to get a new person to help him as well and maybe the net effect was that something about his art style started to alter. People noticed this at the time, too.
Then Shipeng had to move on which is why Luis took over when he did. So, really it was a choice between having an artist or not at the time (turns out finding long term regular artists is hard!)
More of the discussion about your art and Luis’s art here when you were first announced as coming back here in the comments:
http://exiern.com/comic/fourteen-years-of-exiern-and-look-whos-back/
Anyway, we had this incongruous period of 20 pages before Luis started where the art didn’t quite fit with what came beforehand from the same artist so we decided to effectively move where Luis’s art started back 20 pages, hence what’s happening now with these page updates.
Snyder is tolerable as a filmmaker if someone else does the writng.
And the directing.
And the casting.
And the producing.
And the editing.
And he doesn’t have any say in the distribution.
Or the set design.
Even the catering.
Nor the publicity and marketing.
Also keeps out of the audience.
IF he meets all those criteria, then Snyder might produce a good movie.
